Thompson Building Services is a well-respected M&E contractor based in Preston, with an annual turnover of approximately £6m.

We work in the commercial and industrial sectors, and our clients include Local Councils, Schools, Universities, Office facilities, Utility Companies, Healthcare/Hospital facilities, Retail, Hospitality, and Sports Stadia.

Our projects can range vastly from reactive maintenance to full turnkey projects with a combined M&E value of up to £1m. Approximately 95% of our projects are located within 60 minutes’ drive from our office in Preston.

Mechanical Supervisor / Projects Engineer

An exciting vacancy for a Skilled Plumbing and Heating Engineer looking to progress their career and join an Ambitious M&E Building Engineering Company.

Working with the Mechanical Contracts Manager to deliver projects including:

New commercial heating installations, boiler house replacements and upgrades including ASHPs. Refurbishments and New build projects. Our key clients include local authorities, colleges and NHS sites.

The Role

Work with the Mechanical Contracts Manager to develop the mechanical department.

  • Working in both on site and within the office.
  • Managing progress and quality of work on site through site visits and providing support and guidance to the installation team.
  • Meeting with clients on site to plan installations and solving engineering issues.
  • Management of subcontractors on site to ensure progress to programme, quality of work and health and safety compliance.
  • Attending site to undertake scoping visits to gather information to prepare estimates.
  • Liaison with wholesalers to obtain best prices and planning deliveries to suit programme.
  • Supporting the mechanical contracts manager in delivering the construction and completion phases including commissioning and handover.
  • Resolving technical issues on site.
  • The role will involve working with our existing clients developing relationships to ensure repeat business.
  • Focusing on delivering high-quality installations with a hassle-free service to clients, ensuring profitability and managing H&S to the highest standards

The Person

  • A skilled mechanical engineer from a Pipefitting/Gas Engineer/Installation background

  • A wide range of experience in the Commercial sector.

  • Advantageous if you have experience of working on local authority and education based projects ranging from £20,000 to £600,000.

  • Looking for career progression following a structured plan.

  • Friendly and approachable.

Approved Electricians/Electricians

The Role

We are looking for Electricians / Approved Electricians with experience of working unsupervised and as part of a team.  Working in commercial and industrial premises for a variety of customers including in the education, healthcare and commercial sectors.  Work will be primarily in the Lancashire area although you will be required to work across the North West as required.

Requirements

  • Relevant NVQ Level 3 / City and Guilds
  • Current JIB Card or ability to be graded
  • 18th Edition if possible
  • PASMA/IPAF/First Aid/Asbestos Awareness/SSSTS would be beneficial but not essential

Recent successful projects include complete electrical installation to new build school extension circa $600,000 to meet BREAAM requirements.  Complete LED lighting and emergency lighting projects to University Buildings.  New EV Charging installations across local authority highways depots.  New power, lighting and distribution installs to commercial staff welfare and office buildings across the North West.

The Role

We have a busy forward order book and we are looking for motivated and friendly pipefitters and plumbers

Working on site with a small team

Undertaking installation work in commercial and industrial premises for a variety of customers including in the education, healthcare and commercial sectors.

Requirements

  • Relevant NVQ Level 3 / City and Guilds
  • Commercial Experience
  • Current CSCS CArd or ability to obtain this
  • PASMA/IPAF/First Aid/Asbestos Awareness/SSSTS would be beneficial but not essential
  • Full UK Driving Licence
